The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 created a new framework for online casinos in New Zealand, implemented by the Department of Internal Affairs. As at 15 September 2026, licences have not yet been issued: transition arrangements lead to a limited group of operators from December 2026 and licensing from 2027.

The future online-casino regime provides for up to fifteen selected operators, consumer-protection standards, a public register and a registration icon. Sports and race betting follow a separate framework: since 28 June 2025, online supply is restricted to the domestic provider TAB NZ and relevant brands.
