Baccarat — Punto Banco
In Punto Banco, participants do not choose whether to draw: two hands named Player and Banker receive cards under a fixed tableau. Bets predict which hand will finish closer to 9, or a tie. The names do not mean the seated player and casino; they are simply the two sides.

Choose a bet
Before the deal, the main choices are Player, Banker or Tie. Pairs and other propositions are separate side bets.

Two cards
Two cards go to each side. Values are added using the units digit only: 7 + 8 therefore totals 5.

Natural or draw
An opening 8 or 9 is a natural and normally ends drawing. Otherwise Player may receive a third card, after which Banker follows its total and Player’s third-card value.
- 04
Payment
The side closer to 9 wins. Player often pays even money; Banker pays even money less commission or under an alternative table; Tie pays more but occurs much less often.

Counting points
Aces count 1, cards 2–9 count face value, and tens, jacks, queens and kings count zero. Whenever a sum reaches two digits only the units digit remains: 6 + 7 = 13 becomes 3. There is no bust and no stand decision, explaining why a visually strong pair of cards can have a low total.
The third-card rule
Player draws on 0–5 and stands on 6–7, except after a natural. Banker’s action depends on its total and, where Player drew, that card’s value. The tableau is automatic; importing blackjack intuition is a mistake. The dealer or software must execute it without bettor choice.
Banker commission
Banker wins slightly more often because its drawing rule acts second. A common 5% commission turns £10 winnings into £9.50. No-commission variants may compensate by reducing payment when a particular total wins, so read the exact line before comparing tables.
Tie and side bets
Tie offers a large payment, often 8 or 9 to 1, but its low frequency normally produces a much larger house edge. Pairs, winning margins and bonuses have their own odds. A run of Banker or Player results has no reliable predictive force.
