Gambling advertising and influencers: read the message critically
An advertisement, winning video or promotional code proves neither authorisation nor value. Separate what is shown, what is paid and what can actually be withdrawn.

Identify the message’s purpose
Look for advertising, partnership or commercial-link disclosures. A personal story can still promote an offer. The ANJ publishes guidance on commercial communications. A well-known creator does not remove the need to check the offer independently.
Ask what the video leaves out
A winning clip may omit lost sessions, total stakes, deposits and withdrawal conditions. Editing may combine several favourable moments. Ask which period is shown and whether amounts belong to a real account, demonstration or promotional balance before comparing them with your situation.
Return to the written terms
A code is not available cash. Identify the required deposit, wagering volume, eligible games, expiry and withdrawal limits. Save the conditions when you view them. A screenshot of a slogan does not replace the full promotional rules.
Recognise time pressure
Countdowns, notifications and fear of missing out encourage rapid decisions. Delaying allows independent checks of domains and terms. If avoiding a missed promotion is the only reason to participate, the demand comes from the marketing device rather than a planned leisure activity.
Separate audience from authorisation
Views, comments, logos and celebrity appearances are not an authorisation register. Online casino offers remain unlawful in France even when promoted on social media. Check the exact domain, product and holder with the relevant authority.
Keep useful evidence
Record the URL, date, publishing account and visible conditions. Distinguish observations from assumptions in a report. Mask personal details and identity documents in copies sent to third parties. Never make extra payments just to test whether a promise works.
Practical reference
Turn a promise into a checkable question
These questions expose missing context.
| Message | Question | Useful document |
|---|---|---|
| “I won €1,000” | From what stakes and over which period? | Full history, not one outcome |
| “€100 bonus” | What wagering and withdrawal conditions? | Complete promotional rules |
| “Trusted site” | Which domain and authorisation? | Relevant official register |
| “Last chance” | Why decide before checking? | Dated terms independent of the slogan |
Read the conditions and check the offer
Viral content can be popular while incomplete or misleading.
